Billy Cundiff kicked a 37 yard game-winning field goal in the Georgia Dome to spoil the Falcons Sunday, and to stay with the pack in a crowded AFC North.
The main story line was the return of receiver Josh Gordon to the Browns lineup. The talented WR was suspended 10 games for violating the NFL’s drug policy.
Gordon made his presence known early and often in Atlanta, and could be the key component to a late season push for the Browns to reach the playoffs. Josh’s 2014 debut came to the tune of 8 receptions covering 120 yards. He was targeted plenty more times throughout the game today in which a few errant passes fell into Falcons defenders’ hands.
As much as Flash contributed with his hands, one of his better plays came when he wisely threw a botched reverse both out of bounds AND across the line of scrimmage.
Gordon is going to be do nothing but help this Browns offense move down the field with defenses having to account for him. With Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West carrying the pill, defenses are going to have to decide which part of the Browns’ attack they want to take away.
Hoyer must be more selective with his passes and can’t force the ball to Gordon just because he’s back on the field. The big plays will come in the Kyle Shanahan led offense. Cleveland should be excited.
